A few days ago we had the opportunity to visit a unique place, the Lake Trichonida! Trichonida is located in Greece, at the region of Etoloakarnania and is now the largest lake in Greece. The average depth of the water is 29 meters, reaching the 58 meters at its deepest.
The lake’s waters are constantly renewed by underground and above ground springs and the continuous renewal keeps the lake very clean at all times. We got fascinated at first glance by the Trichonida natural beauty. Certain corners of the lake give the illusion of rather gazing at sea waters.
Apart from its natural beauty Trichonida is also an important wetland with high ecological value including a wide variety of flora and fauna. We took the tour of the lake on a sunny day and we never got bored, not for a single moment! At certain areas we encountered small "beaches" where visitors can enjoy a coffee, a meal, but also a cool dive in the lake!
The lake was full of fish everywhere you looked at, live proof of the vitality of its water! Fish was swimming all around us, lazy puddlings of ducks all around the surface! A magical sight!
An increased amount of tourists has started visiting the region, as year after year its charm becomes more famous from recent visitors. Natural beauty plus the simplicity and hospitality of its people and the activities offered, are the key points that in the future will lead the region to further tourism development!
Last but not least one should not fail to mention the particular local gastronomy offering exciting tastes! The cuisine is purely Mediterranean, the meat cooked in delicious ways, olive oil of great quality used on all recipes, in general, a variety of local tasty products one should not miss to try out. There are special recipes for the preparation of the lake fish as for centuries it’s been the base of the locals diet. It is cooked in many ways (boiled, fried or grilled) and all local recipes are a specialist to highlight its flavors! Visitors can not get enough of these local dishes!
Two days in Trichonida were definitely not enough to discover all its unique beauty! But it was a great opportunity to get a first impression of the fantastic landscape and its particular beauties! We left full of gorgeous landscape images and with the hope that pretty soon we will get again a chance to visit Lake Trichonida!
