Blue Lake Skra, Kilkis, Greece!

A few days ago, I was lucky to discover and explore closely a gorgeous place I hadn’t been before. The Blue Lake of Skra, as the locals call it! We marked the route from Google maps so getting there from Thessaloniki was a piece of cake. We went from Thessaloniki to Fano and from there in less than an hour to Skra. We reached the end point of the car road and had to follow on foot from there to reach this marvel of nature that we had heard so much about. The path leading there was downhill and slowly and carefully we started following it..

Soon afterwards the small path gave its place to rocky stairs, also leading downhill. We were on foot around 10 minutes, getting all and more downhill while the sound of running water was getting louder by each step we took.

The rocky steps led us to a shady natural plateau dominated by the green plants all around. At our right there was a small fierce river that we got closer to its bank in order to admire the beauty of the landscape even better, right under the heavy shade of the trees all around. All the nice surprises though, were not over yet! We followed the narrow path of earth leading to a small wooden bridge, straight through smaller rivers and ageless trees. This route was of amazing beauty!

Crossing the bridge it was noon already but we couldn’t feel the heat thanks to the shady trees that made walking fun! We kept on following this narrow path till we finally reached the small blue lake and the beautiful waterfalls.

The trees all around were reflecting in the water turning its shade also to green, a magical view! There were people in the lake but we restrained ourselves to admire its beauty without even wetting our toes. We took endless pictures all around, one gorgeous spot after another, breathless by the beauty of nature! Our lungs filled up with fresh air, our ears enjoyed all those unique sounds of nature.. nothing can be more relaxing!

But all good things come to an end so eventually it was time to depart. We followed back the entire beautiful root of the small path and stairs, always under the shady trees with the small rivers sparkling in the sunshine. This time our hike was uphill all the way. After ten minutes we were back to our car and one more escape from the city was over. However, it was a day full of images and experiences that will follow us for days, bringing back a smile and that welcome relaxing feeling!
