A week ago, I spent a weekend in the beautiful city of Rethymnon in Crete island! Rethymno is the capital of the prefecture and the ideal city for holidays!
The whole city lies near the sea featuring a traditional harbor!
Rethymno has a long history of 4500 years, obvious from the ancient, Byzantine and Venetian monuments found in the wider area of the city. Today Rethymnon is the third largest city of Crete, developed dynamically in the field of tourism.
In the city there is a University while in the wider region exceptional local products such as wine, olive oil etc are produced.
In this beautiful city I enjoyed an unforgettable weekend. I strolled around, I had coffee by the sea, I visited the sights, I tried out delicious food, I met friendly people and I calmed down and filled my heart with beautiful experiences:
The first thing I recommend you to do once you reach the city is to walk to the waterfront! Enjoy the image of the city getting wet by the sea and go to the Fortezza, the Venetian fortress city. The fortress is a project dated back to the 16th century.
A stroll in the old city of Rethymno, full of small cobbled streets, beautiful buildings and many shops is a must! I walked to the old town taking pictures and I really enjoyed it! In the total length of the promenade, many taverns, restaurants, cafes and bars are located giving you the opportunity to visit something different every day! I strongly recommend you try the local cuisine! It is delicious and will be unforgettable!
So when you get the chance, put the beautiful city of Rethymno in your travel plans and visit it! I guarantee that you will not regret it!
