Thermaikos Bay : Salty waters and hot sun

Thermaikos Bay is the largest bay of the Aegean Sea in Greece. The city of Thessaloniki is built at its northern end, Halkidiki at its eastern side and Pieria at the western one. It’s a beautiful bay with cliffy harsh or sandy beaches, well-known for its beauty to locals and abroad, a bay that has even become a popular song! At the state area of Thessaloniki, there’s also a separate municipality that bares its name, Municipality of Thermaikos, one that has been developed independently around 30 kilometers away from the city of Thessaloniki, including various settlements that have been integrated with one another as they were further expanding over the years all along Thermaikos eastern coast.

If you happen to visit Thessaloniki, it’s most certain that you will also visit the area of Thermaikos municipality as well. It’s a gorgeous area right next to the sea waves of its very own personality that has a lot to offer to the visitor for his fun and entertainment!

The special natural beauty of the Thermaikos Municipality as well as its proximity to the city of Thessaloniki (half an hour drive), has turned this area to the most popular vacation area of the people of Thessaloniki. An area visited by more and more tourists year after year as the picturesque settlements of Peraia, Epanomi, Agia Triada and Neoi Epivates win them over, built right on the waves of the Thermaikos sea, full of sunshine and summer spirit that last many months a year!

Lots of people decide to spend their summer vacation at the Municipality of Thermaikos so plenty of hotels as well as small apartments to rent are available. The sea bottom is sandy in the area and there are many well organized beach bars to enjoy a drink in the shade after you’re done swimming.

You will also find plenty of great taverns in the area with great cuisine. All along the Thermaikos coastline, restaurants and taverns are serving fresh fish and seafood at affordable prices. You will also be able to enjoy your coffee by the sea as there many coffee shops all around and plenty of bars to enjoy a drink in the evening!

Since the beach is sandy, you also get a great opportunity to take a walk next to the sea for miles, my personal suggestion being to do this early in the morning or after sunset to avoid the heat of the sun during the in-between hours.

Walking is one of the most relaxing human activities. Why not do so with the coolness of sea water next to your steps and the sound of the crashing waves as your company.. nothing better to get revitalized!
