I was intrigued when I saw a post about Home Hosted Meals in the L.A. Couchsurfing group. I'm a member of the group and traveling to L.A. in a week, so I have regularly been checking the page.
I discovered that Home Hosted Meals is a website that sets travelers up with locals who are willing to offer a home-cooked meal for a small fee. One of the reasons I'm addicted to traveling is because I want to get to know the locals. I can't think of a better way to experience that than by consuming a meal prepared in someone's home.
I have been a couchsurfer for seven years and many people still express hesitation to having a stranger spend the night; therefore, sharing a meal is a wonderful alternative. By participating, you can still experience a cultural exchange and appreciate that there are many fascinating and kind people in the world just waiting to meet you.
Home Hosted Meals currently has hosts in a multitude of countries from Armenia to Vietnam. I'm thrilled to learn there are several hosts in Istanbul and hoping some will sign up in Bulgaria, as I will be traveling to both places in May. I can't wait to have my own personal experiences.
Please consider signing up as a host and share this information with others who might be interested. I also hope people use the site when they travel, because why would you be more inclined to go to a restaurant if you can have a Home Hosted Meal waiting for you? Just look at the happy faces and delectable food in the photos.
