How travel has shaped me?

‘Don’t forget my dear’ he said. ‘In ten years, you won’t remember the money, you will remember the experiences’

Travelling can offer you a richer, vibrant, inspiring, life changing experiences and a certain sense of being wild and free. It teaches you about yourself, shapes great memories, encourages you to be curious, enables you to learn by default and can shine a light towards your future.

Due to the influence of my grandmother and mother; two incredible women who loved to travel, I have, over the past 20 years, been lucky enough to travel and explore the world, experiencing culture, scenery, people and adventures that I will never forget. The person I am today is mostly due to the people I have met, the adventures, both good and bad that I have had and the places I have explored.

If I think clearly and deeply about what travel has taught me I can come up with the following reasons;

I am a shy and quiet person by nature. My experiences in travel and adventure have given me the confidence to know that I could land anywhere and quickly work things out for myself and manage even the most challenging situations with a sense of humour and a good dose of determination.

Restlessness and peacefulness

I love being on the go. I love the freedom of moving and stopping as I please. I can be at peace with wherever I am and have itchy feet at the same time. I find myself planning trips just as I am returning home from a one. It’s exciting to be thinking about a new place to travel to, explore and experience.

Courage and resilience

Whilst I do, like many other people, like to plan things and will often have a checklist before I head off on a trip, I do know that either way things will be ok. Even when they are not ok or when they are uncomfortable or out of my comfort zone I have the quiet belief in myself that I can work things out and make them ok. Sometimes, you just need to ride things out.

Through my travels and adventures I have been lucky enough to experience many sunrises and sunsets, stunning scenery, remote villages, crazy cities, different cultures and great people. It’s these times when I can truly appreciate what beauty and simplicity is all about.

In the end, travel and adventure has reminded me how much I love exploring, being in the outdoors, meeting new people, experiencing new things and has made me a richer person for it!
