No Limits: Nick Vujicic Live in Bangkok

“I love living life. I am happy.” Drones of people queued in front of the indoor stadium Huamark in Bangkok on Tuesday evening as they expected to witness, live, the soul-stirring message of hope that Vujicic came to deliver. Volunteers stood at the entrance admitting people into the venue whilst distributing wristbands and tablets provided by the sponsors. The suspense built up quickly as event-goers awaited the main attraction of the evening.

Prior to Nick’s arrival to the center stage, a Thai musician and business tycoon entertained the eager crowd with their motivational and musical prowess. Anticipation for Vujicic grew as the toastmaster briefly introduced him right before a five-minute video of his life story played on the large projector screens. Then screams and shouts erupted as the man, himself, entered the arena with the camera crew, escorts and simultaneous interpreter.

A humble man, indeed, approached the platform where he stood greeting his lively audience. I couldn’t believe how I excited I was to see this man whom I’d never heard of until coming to Thailand. I only knew he existed a month prior to going to hear him speak. But thanks to the free tickets distributed by my ICB church family (kudos to Pastor Stewart!), I had the opportunity of a lifetime to witness this powerhouse in person on my penultimate day as a 25-year-old man.

“You must have the courage to fail,” Nick told the attentive audience that Tuesday September night. His Christian faith helped him through many hardships in life of which the biggest one was coming to terms with his unique medical condition of having no limbs. No medical explanation exists for his innate bodily state.

As a child growing up he reached a point where he didn’t want to live anymore because he couldn’t understand why his physique was that way. Through the support and love of his parents, and through his faith in God [Jesus Christ], he began to accept his life as it were, knowing that he was special and created to achieve the unfathomable.

Nick’s sense of humor commixed with the sincerity of his life story demonstrated his passion and knack for oral storytelling. It wasn’t until college that he discovered his purpose in life: to become a motivational speaker. While his parents didn’t believe it at first, Nick proved himself through his unrelenting commitment in finding places to tell his story. After “52 rejections” he found success on the “53rd phone call” he made when a high school was delighted to have him speak to their students.

Now so many years later, Nick has traveled the world delivering his message of hope, inspiration and salvation. Having met eight presidents, receiving 28,000 speaking invitations, and touching the lives of two million people across the globe, this amazing man is doing what he was meant to do all while remaining family-oriented, modest, and spiritual.

Proud to be a father who can tell his son that he waited for his mother, the virtues of chastity, patience and temperance should not be devalued urged Nick. TRUE LOVE WAITS! Nick Vujicic is a miracle who believes in miracles. The truth and love that emanated from his spirit that day cannot be expressed in words. I left that event feeling cheerfully vibrant with a robust determination to do my part in this humongous world of hurting people, searching for something greater to complete their emptiness and loneliness.

Nick has reassured me to “know the truth of my value” so that I can make each day count toward the bigger vision of living limitlessly. Thank you Nick! Your motivational words established the theme for my 26th year of life. Enjoy this firsthand video footage recorded by friend and “churchmate” Joan Hope Elgincolin,

Travel is not just what I do but it is who I am. When I first traveled abroad in high school as a foreign exchange student, little did I know that it would serve as the threshold of a lifetime interest in globetrotting. Now nearly 10 years later, I have lived in four countries and plan to do much more traveling in years to come. The world of teaching English has given me incredible opportunity to engage in cultural anthropology and I certainly can't get enough of the language learning process as a polyglot in the making. My personal website is currently under construction but I also maintain a micro-blog on facebook that enables me to share my insights and experiences with my ever-growing following. All in all, I am most proud to be known as a global citizen, a reference I accept with humility and honor. Blogging is rad! Many thanks (muchas gracias, feichang ganxie, grazie un millon, fala menogu) to KFTW for allowing me this platform to connect with the world and vice versa. St. Augustine said it best: “The world is a book and those who do not travel read only a page."
