A Khasi Fruit Seller of Shillong

If you are in the city it is typical to encounter a sight of several tribal Khasi women, dressed in their traditional dress, to be selling their wares on the streets. Goods usually consist of betel nut, betel leaf, sweet juicy litchis and some other extremely sour local fruit. Meghalaya has a matriarchal society, some thing unheard of in the rest of India.
