Monks at the Rumtek Monastery playing Carrom

Monastic scholars at Rumtek Monastery unwinding with a game of Carrom.

Carrom, or Karrom, is the shuffleboard equivalent of pool: the aim of the game is to pocket all your flat ‘men’ and the ‘Queen’ into the corner pockets of the board, using a ‘striker’. It’s sort of the equivalent of pocketing all your solids or stripes before pocketing the eight-ball using a cue ball (in pool).
