“My name is Lutfi Rashid. My brother and I own a spice and drug store called Rateb Al Tabaghi, which is located in downtown Amman behind the Al-Hussein Mosque.
This store was passed down from our grandfather to our father and then to us.
We specialize in spices, basic ingredients of traditional Jordanian cuisine. We also sell a wide variety of rice, beans, dried fruit, and other important ingredients of our cuisine such as aromatic herbs and medicinal herbs, teas, coffees, chamomiles and infusions.
One of the spices that we use the most in our cuisine is the turmeric, which makes the rice turn yellow. We also use a lot of cumin, black pepper, curry, and sumac which is used in Jordan’s most traditional dish: the Musakhan. For our desserts we like to use lots of nutmeg and cinnamon.
All of our products are laid out in containers so that our customers can come in and ask for singular spices or any mix of spices they want. Once a customer chooses a specific mix of spices, we grind them twice in a food processor to make the mixture extra fine and perfect for use in the kitchen.
During the Ramadan we have lots of requests for raisins, dates, and walnuts which are used for desserts.
We offer our customers the best product quality“.
