“My name is Ali Al-Hasasen. I’m an eco-guide for the Feynan Ecolodge.
The Ecolodge is one hundred percent eco-friendly.
The lodge is lit entirely by candles and the water, which comes from local springs, is served in clay jars, never in plastic or glass bottles. Our menu is entirely vegetarian because we don’t want to use the fridge to preserve meat. Together with the Bedouin community, we recycle all waste, even the food waste which we then transform into compost.
The relationship between the lodge and the local community is very strong. All the staff belongs to the Bedouin community, which creates beautiful handicrafts like chairs and tables for the interior and the exterior of the lodge. These objects can also be bought at our small gift shop as well as many other local handicrafts and products from the Dana reserve.
The Ecolodge also has a small candle workshop where two Bedouin women create handmade candles and candle holders. During the high season we use up to 4.000 candles to lit the lodge.
The lodge has 26 rooms, a room for meetings, a beautiful Bedouin-style lounge room, and a garden with hammocks and a relaxation area.
In the winter we serve a vegetarian open buffet in the big dining hall, while in the summer our guests can eat on the terrace while admiring the beautiful panoramic view.
In the warmer months we set up a Bedouin sitting area on the terrace where our guests can relax after dinner, have some Bedouin tea, stargaze and listen to the guides telling Bedouin life stories“.
