“My name is Fernando Huaman Giron, we are in the Pampa of Nazca, heading to the city of Piura. We are three brothers of the group “Guíame Señor Cautivo” (Guide me Captive Christ). This is a pilgrimage from the city of Cuzco to Piura de Ayabaca for a total of 2800 Km. It’s the largest pilgrimage in our country.
We carry this cross as a promise to the Captive Christ of Ayabaca. It weighs approximately 60-70 Kg and it represents our Lord. We are carrying it as promise, just like He did when he carried His cross.
We travel with our backpacks and tents. We walk from 45 to 50 km every day, sleep when it gets dark, and if it’s cold we make a bonfire. We are in God’s hands.
We offer Him this cross for all our sins, for all the help and the miracles that He performs all around Peru to each and every one of our brothers who ask with faith.
Nobody pays for our expenses, we don’t depend on anyone, and are not supported by companies or anything else. We set off with our own budget and pay for our own expenses. We give people these holy cards bearing the image of our Lord in exchange for a few coins for food, medicines, or anything else we might need along the journey”.
