“I’m Alicia. I paint and also work with ceramics, one of Barcelona’s greatest traditions. I’ve had exhibitions in many galleries both in Barcelona and New York, but also in public venues like bars.
Back when I was 16, I spent a year reading and reflecting upon myself. I started going to painting classes until one night, all of a sudden, I woke up and felt the ‘call’ of art, the need to have a studio all for myself.
My paintings are on display at the bar ‘Maigot’. These paintings express feelings linked to dance and body expressions.
It’s pure symbolism: moods are represented by animals in human attitudes, they express our feelings, such as strength or weakness, in an clear and simple way.
With a phrase meant for effect, I add a touch of irony to the painting and help the observer find its deeper meaning. It’s a game whose purpose is to stimulate the curiosity of the observer.”
One of the paintings shows a woman who has her back to a bull, and beside her the phrase: ‘Just for fun’. A witty allusion to the precise attention to positions. It’s a touch of irony, but I always want to underline that fun is always relative”.
