“My name is Pompea Smith and I’m the executive director of Sustainable Economic Enterprises of Los Angeles, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting sustainability for the farmers, health, and good eating.
The Hollywood Farmers’ Market was founded in 1991. Today it has approximately 160 famers and the best produce you can find in the state of California, because according to the market regulation, the famers have to harvest in the morning or the day before.
We create events to educate people about nutrition. Local chefs, bakers and artisans give their contribution to the market. It’s a festival place, much loved because of the synergy between food vendors and farmers.
Thanks to public funding we opened ‘The Farmer’s Kitchen’, where the farmers’ products are cooked and eaten.
We also offer educational programs like ‘Bring the Farmer to Your School’ and ‘Good Cooking’.
