Elize: energy, passion and love - part I

“One of our activities is called 'circle time', in which children tell their stories. Child abuse is a great problem in this country. We have a garden where we grow our own vegetables, some of which are sold to buy corn. We also teach the children how to recycle properly.

We have about six-seven improvised classrooms where we teach the children to sing, play instruments, the history and geography of Tanzania, and English: their only hope in this country and its strong tourist trade”.

We cross one of the many banana plantations in Mto Wa Mbu and with Elize, the orphanage coordinator, and some of the volunteers who just got here from Holland …

I was in Mto wa Mbu from august till december 2009 and I worked for Twiga Foundation. It is very nice and moving to see everybody back in these movie especially all the children. Iwill also like to make a small but very important correction: Twiga Foundation is not an orphanage! This is very important. The children are taken care of and protected but they are not taken out of the community. They live in families in the community. Soem of them are orphans and then they live with other relatives e.g grandparents or aunts. Soem live in a foster family but it is important to note that they live inthe communtity and that they and also their families are supported by Twiga Foundation. What they can do themselves they do and we support them with what they don't manage and help them to reach their own goals, with an emphasis on education to do so. kiss from Tinene van Beers, Oegstgeest, The Netherlands.

Digital Invasions

Digital Invasions

We would like to introduce you our project "Invasioni Digitali" (Digital Invasions) that is all about co-creating and nurture cultural value.

In times of economic turndown, when budget cuts heavily affect cultural management policies and strategies, the use of digital data, information and value co-created by (and with) the audience may generate an environment in which it contributes in - mitigating losses of socially valuable asset - optimizing (and minimizing, too, in a longer term) the costs of communication - generating new added value content by re-use and re-interpretation of pre-existing content ‘Digital Invasions’ are mobs of people who support Italy's museums and cultural heritage by 'invading' them and then documenting the experience on blogs and social media. Each ‘invasion’ is …
